Post-USAs Meet and August 10,000m Event Set to Take Place

Press Release

Portland, OR - Portland Track, the organization behind the Portland Track Festival, is proud to announce the creation of two new events for the 2015 season.

The Portland Summer Twilight, set to take place on Thursday, July 2, will host a variety of track and field events. In past years, the Portland Track Festival has focused primarily on distance events, but the Portland Summer Twilight embodies the best of track and field, with events spread across a variety of disciplines.

The second meet, the Portland 10,000m, is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, staging one men’s and one women’s 10,000m race. After the Memorial van Damme meeting in Brussels canceled their 10,000m race in 2014, agents and athletes spoke for the need for another mid-to-late season 10,000m event. What better way than to stage a one hour event with many of the world’s best 10k runners, in the United States.

“Portland Track is excited to announce our two new events for 2015,” says Portland Track President Craig Rice. “U.S. athletes and coaches have been looking for domestic, high-performance events as an alternative to the European circuit and we are happy to welcome everyone back to Portland for our 2015 series of meets.”

All three events are set to take place at Lewis and Clark College, will be run in the evening and offer the same fan-friendly and professional atmosphere fans and athletes have come to expect from the Portland Track Festival.

More detailed event information will be released in coming months. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] and make sure to sign up for Portland Track Weekly, the organization’s weekly newsletter.
