Portland Track Seeks Design Submissions For Proposed Pre's Rock Memorial

The roadside memorial in Eugene known as Pre's Rock is apparently about add a new feature.

The Portland Track organization has announced a new design competition aimed at adding a new memorial installation at the site of Steve Prefontaine's fatal car accident in 1975. 

The design contest is open to "students, graduate students, and design professionals within five years of graduation."

A jury comprised of design professionals, athletes and contemporaries of Prefontaine will select the winning design. There is also $4,000 in prize money involved.  

The plan for a new memorial at Pre's Rock coincides with the intended completion of the new Hayward Field, which will open in spring of 2020 and host the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
